Wind Energy maturity

Since its creation in 1999, THEOLIA has anticipated the development of wind energy production

The inevitable future shortage of fossil fuels (more than 80% of energy used today is from finite fossil sources– coal, oil, gas and uranium), the risks surrounding nuclear power, the catastrophic effects of permanent and growing damage to the ozone layer and the growing needs of populations in different countries are all driving governments to find alternative solutions.

The Kyoto summit in 1997 and Johannesburg summit in 2002 underlined the necessity to limit the escalation of greenhouse emissions into the atmosphere. European Union countries have therefore fixed targets for the diversification of energy sources towards clean and renewable energy production. A European directive in January 2008 aims to reconcile national goals in the introduction of renewables to achieve a Europe-wide objective of 20% of total energy production from renewable sources by 2020.

From the outset, THEOLIA has been well positioned within the renewable sector, focusing on wind energy because of its strong growth potential relative to other sectors in coming years.
