THEOLIA, a green company by nature

Through its business sector, the THEOLIA Group has shown that it is possible to link the environment with the economy. The group is in fact positioned as a major player in sustainable development.

On a yearly basis, the electricity production of THEOLIA’s 661 MW in operation meets the needs of approximately 618,000 households (excluding heating) and avoids 685 thousands tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions(1).

(1)According to ADEME, an household consumes approximately 2,500 kWh/year excluding heating, and the production of 1 kWh allows to avoid 443g of greenhouse gas emissions.

Account is taken systematically of environmental consequences

THEOLIA considers the environmental consequences of its business. Environmental consequences are contemplated, in the strict respect of all legal and regulatory standards, when building permits are granted for each wind turbine establishment project. Care is taken in terms of landscape insertion, systematic attention is paid to human and natural environments, recovery and sorting of waste occurs during the building period, pollution risks are prevented and sub-contractor actions are managed, while environmental impacts (sound level compliance, for example) are measured and monitored. These are systematised for each wind turbine project within each of the group's subsidiaries.

In addition, for the establishment of each wind turbine project, specific actions in favour of the environment are undertaken, such as ornithological monitoring, the protection of natural areas close to building sites, restoration of the natural environment, and an ecological management plan within regional parks, etc. Finally, from the start of each wind turbine project, THEOLIA schedules the restoration of the area at the end of the operation, both in technical and financial terms, in line with the regulations in force.
